I don't recall that Bill Gates ever objected to being called a nerd.

Any perceived criticism of a minority, is often instantly flagged as "hate speech", by the easily outraged, activist mindset. Once it starts, it doesn't stop and has fed a culture of perceived privilege, entitlement and intolerance - i.e. "you will tolerate me and respect me and I will not tolerate anything less". So begins the brave new era of eliminating all perceived insult, disagreement and of course synthetically removing differences, by way of legislation. The people must be forced to like each other and each others' lifestyles or shut up (or face ruin).

But world leaders, aspiring world leaders, career politicians, etc, can characterise Islam, for example, as some kind of poisonous death cult and get away with it, because of course that has been given the green light... they may even further their ambitions in doing so - lets not forget our current dear leader and his "letter boxes" comment (and that he's also a documented racist, misogynist bigot - much like his opposite number over the water).

Political correctness is a tool of oppression, it's a stick to beat the little man with - but why hold the stick yourself and do the beating, when a multitude of useful idiots are salivating and ready to go.

While "lower middle class" vegan "activists" are expending their energy standing outside fast food outlets with pictures of dead animals, the elites can rest easy.

Personally, I think being called a geek or a nerd are compliments...

yawn, soon we will not be able to speak for all speech will be hateful to someone/something. Then telepathy develops and they will outlaw all thought for thoughts will be considered hateful to someone/something. At that point we return to primitive level of mankind relying on grunting and at that time grunting will be outlawed because it is hateful to someone/something......

I think this serves as yet another classic example of someone not taking the time to understand the intention and meaning of the comments in question. This is exactly what happens when people want to make assumptions, and do not take proper time to understand the true meaning and particularly the correct context in which the comments were made. While this unfortunately isn't limited to social media sites, and seems to be a common thread in society itself; social media sites seem to provide a platform for these kinds of misunderstandings. And I think cynwulf puts it quite well above, and I totally agree with him too.

I would have thought calling someone a "geek" would be taken as a compliment, not an insult. How does that mean "you're stupid" ? How are you a "geek" if you were "stupid" ? I don't get that. Oops, I just said "hate speech", perhaps someone better report this post

More generally, it is selectively applied enforcement of these new "rules" which bely their purpose. From the selective enforcement and from who is targeted and from when it happens it makes me consider that the real purpose is about gaining control over projects, especially Free/Libre and Open Source projects by eliminating specific, key individuals. They are usually hard to buy out or infiltrate the board, so lynch mobs are found to be an effective choice to crush or annex these projects. It is now easy to rally an online lynch mob and fire a large scale attack in a narrow salvo and the hapless individual chosen for "cancelling".
