yes I know - extremely stupid question. But I'm just curious.
I haven't come across a single female (online or in actual) who uses linux.

Here at LQ there is Sasha, and there are several female members.

as a matter of fact I work in a tech shop and my boss AND his wife both use Ubuntu Linux as their primary OS, their kids do for the most part to (kids being high school age and freshmen in college)
also, being in a tech shop we see just how bad things are for our customers with windows and have been switching quite a few of them to Ubuntu Linux and quite a few of them are women too so yes I do know, of know OF several girls/women who use Linux

I know a handful of Linux-using females at work, and I "know" a couple more from 'net/forum interactions. Me mum runs Ubuntu, but that's strictly due to my influence.

At least one: GrapefruiTgirl, one of the moderators. There may be quite a lot more, it's hard to tell with some usernames. I'm definitely not one, though.

Same here, but only because of me, otherwise nobody in my family would be using it.

As for other girls ... none.

In fact there were only 2 people I recently saw using Linux, they were teachers and both male, one used Fedora the other Ubuntu.

Linux users are rare enough, but Linux + female ... more so. Of course, I do not see this as a good thing. It may also be because this is compounded by the rarity of females interested in computers.

I have set up a (K)Ubuntu box for a girlfriend.
She runs Linux for more than a year now and does not want to go back to history (i.e. Windows).

My Wife runs Ubuntu.

There are many many women and girls who use Linux. 2 of the mods here are female and in terms of membership there are a huge number of women. However, the internet being the internet, many women do not identify as such because of creepy male internet users.

And I have moved this to General where we have had threads like this before.

My girlfriend from two years is kinda sick of the term linux, hearing and watching all the times around me.
Heck, she doesn't even use my Mint box, rather picks up the Windows one, that bites dust from me.
I'm still trying to convince her, phewww.

Hey, I didn't say there aren't more than that, I just said that they're the only two I know of (as in, they've said it publicly here, and it's in their profile)...it's kinda hard to tell by somebody's username whether they're a guy or a girl, unless it's made obvious ("GrapefruiTgirl", "MrCode", or if the name seems overall masculine/feminine...it's sometimes hard to tell).

Now, I don't wanna get into a big debate over the ratio of men/women there are in the Linux community, so I figure I should probably just stop now before people start accusing each other of being sexist or something...
