Simple PHP search engine for websites

I've searched around a bit but I couldn't find a simple PHP-based search engine script for my website. I believe google has a site-specific search engine code, but I'm not sure how it works and whether it needs to access the google server every time a search is done on my site.

I would prefer one that is light-weight and integrates fully within my site. Any ideas?

I'm sorry if my question was not clear. I am looking for a PHP-based search engine and not one that requires installation on the server. I'm not hosting my own site. I'm hosted on a shared host and don't have access to the machine.

htDig requires me to compile and install it as it's written in C++.

Again, any help with this will be appreciated.
