Are you asking whether they should change the licensing terms of their music to a copyleft one?

At the moment, looking at that site, their licensing terms on material recorded at their gigs are more enlightened than many bands, but definitely not copyleft:
Quote:
The Grateful Dead and our managing organizations have long encouraged the purely non-commercial exchange of music taped at our concerts... We reserve the ability to withdraw our sanction of non-commercial digital music should circumstances arise that compromise our ability to protect and steward the integrity of our work.

You could also have talked about the community of fans, which the band has fostered, which also has a certain resonance.
