should I avoid Protonmail because of the cyber-attacks?

I thought Protonmail e-mail necessarily cost money, but just found out the basic service is free, and immediately wanted to get an account. I have wanted to stop using Google services.

But then I read that Protonmail has repeatedly been attacked by cyber-criminals, who used DDos attacks to crash the service and hold it for ransom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProtonMail#DDoS_attacks). In light of this, should I think twice about using Protonmail? Of course criminal hackers could disable Gmail, and surely do try, but I haven't heard of them succeeding.

I use Protonmail everyday, and haven't noticed any issues. Ditched gmail and all Google services about 3 years ago. I have a free account.

No. Figure it out.

A friend started using it, is happy with it. I don't count his opinion as valuable endorsement.

My interpretation is that Google's footprint is so large that the idea of successfully DDoSing Google stretches the imagination.

Thank you. If you think a large and powerful tech company being hacked stretches the imagination, you may suffer from a lack of imagination. I don't place Google beyond the skills of any hacker. Nobody's invulnerable.

It was irrelevant anyway. Relevant was that Protonmail got hacked more than once.
