sharing internet connection with windows xp

Hi,

I successfully share my internet connection with Gentoo as router by following this guide:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/home-router-howto.xml

But how do you share internet connection with Windows XP for Linux client???? Any experience? Any clue??? With Gentoo, I don't have to run dhcp server, just dnsmasq. What about Windows? Is there any idiot guide for setup home router for windows xp?

Thank you.

hi there

for win Xp
right click on ur internet connection icon
then go tp properties
then go to advanced tab and choose "allow users to connect to internet from this computer"
and it will set ur IP to 192.168.0.1 and
then set the IP adress of client machies as "obtain automatically" /or specify the gateway as that of IP address of win machine
then
service network restart
check out for any firewall settings on he win machine

and u r done

although why would you do this? your windows machine is the one that needs protection, not your linux one... I would not recommend that setup

fenderman11111,

I would love to do what you ever told..... I have one brother and one sister..... My computer that has internet connection from my isp is in brother's room. If I play internet in his computer using Linux, my sister can play internet too with laptop as client. Everybody happy. But if my brother want to play internet with his computer...... he only want to use Windows...... no body could play internet..... but him

No.

there are two ethernet card, A and B. A has connection to isp through dhcp. B is in internal network which my client depend on it. I have set ethernet B so it shared internet connection just like you said. But it said it has limited connectivity. So I check the ip address of this card. And it is set to grab the ip address automatically. Of course, it cann't. So I set the ip address manually just like I did to Gentoo. The ip address is same with Gentoo setting. But there is no luck.

I cann't. Any idea???

hi there

enable internet sharing from ur ethernet card A
this will set the IP of ur other card B to 192.168.0.1

now , set the ip of other cards example C, D ,(not on this machine) as to obtain automatically!! or specify the gateway as the IP address of B which is 192.168.0.1

There is no enabled internet sharing connection option in ethernet A. The option is only available in ethernet B.

are u sure that ur connected to ur ISP through A ???
or is it B thats connecting u

Yes, I have checked it three times. The ethernet card which connect to ISP does not have sharing internet connection option.

hi there
then I think u can go about configuring a proxy server (like winproxy)in windows

Hi,

U r right masand. But I have to run network connection wizard first so the internet sharing connection option appear in ethernet card properties that connect to isp.

Thank you.
