setting up network printer??
 

precisely how do i set up a network printer from window xp? i mean a network printer directly connected to the network hub. not connected to a pc on the network.
any help please? the printer is hp8500 N

First add a new HP JetDirect port, specifying the printer's IP address. Then ignore Microsoft's idiot-proofing and add the printer as if it were locally attached to that port (not a network printer.)

Good question. My employer was tossing out a room full of printers, so I rescued some (HP5Si, HP8000N, HP8100N). Set 'em up and printed to them from my Linux boxes so I thought all was well. Then my wife complained she couldn't print (using XP).

Damn if she wasn't right and I couldn't get it to print either.

So thanks for asking my question for me.

Thanx, worked perfectly. Who'd have thought you had to setup a network printer as local? I had everything right but that.
