Seamonkey: "Outgoing server should be the same for both accounts".

Hi:
I use Seamonkey as a mail client. I have just added a second account and the program tells me the outgoing server should be the same for both accounts. Is this normal in mail clients?

Can't see why it should care, but also it usually shouldn't be a problem making it the same, unless there are local LAN issues. Usually you would pass email off to a local SMTP server and off it goes, it shouldn't need to relate to the actual email providers

I only know this: fibertel.com.ar tells me to make outgoing server = smtp.fibertel.com.ar. My other ISP (I have two at this time), telecentro.com.ar, tells me I should put outgoing server = tcsmtp.telecetro.com.ar. But seamonkey will not let me do that. I use POP3.

Well pop3 is irrelevant here.

By ISP, you mean you have two phsyical links? An ISP will typically give their customers access to an internal relay, which serves to validate the outgoing email from their customers to the internet, by offically coming from a fixed known smtp server, rather than a home dynamic IP. it shoudln#'t matter which one you use.

By ISP I mean the company I pay to provide me Internet, which is a company in my country. I'm switching over to a new company, and for the moment I am a client in both of them.

acid_kewpie 03-14-2013 05:05 AM

shouldn't matter then. I used to use my ISP as a relay for MY domain, which they had NOTHING to do with.

It seems Seamonkey really cares about it. I do not know what to do, unless I resign the possibility of watching both mail boxes.

I don't know about Sea Monkey, but Thunderbird allows you to set up different SMTP servers for individual email accounts, and then will use the appropriate SMTP server depending on the account from which you are sending email out.

However, a lot of ISP's these days block direct port 25 (SMTP) traffic between their users and SMTP servers other than their own, so you may need to use a different SMTP port like 465 or 587 if you want to use an outgoing mail server other than the one provided by the ISP to which you are connected.
