Reports: Apple To Place Restrictions on Third-Party and Persistent Cookies

Josh Marshall reports some upcoming changes to Apple''s Safari browser. In particular, Apple is placing some restrictions on third-party and persistent cookies both on Macs and iPhones.

Frankly, that's quite fine with me. I block third-party cookies in my browsers and delete all cookies on exit, primarily because of persistent cookies. If I'm not at a site, I don't need its cookies following me around taking notes, and I certainly don't need folks who sneaked in under the camouflage of a different site doing the same.

Marshall muses about what effects this might have on advertisers, who are heavy users of third-party and persistent cookies. If you care about this stuff, I think you will the article a thoughtful read.

But Frank. I need cookies enabled in Dillo browser to log into forum sites lately. What is a biker to do?

I know the delete cookies command in Dillo. It just gets too damn hard sometimes not to get sucked in.

Losing battle in my mind.

I only came here because I read apples and cookies. I went to the fridge for some milk. Then got all sad.

basically i am all for it.
only with this:
Quote:
Apple will determine what we’ll call “good” and “bad” cookies
it starts getting tricky.

in the end, same as the big G: we will keep you safe as long as we own you.
