Removing Linux and Installing WindowsXP
 

I am trying to delete Linux Partitions on my hard drive and install Windows XP.


I installed fedora core 4 on my laptop(hp zd7000). When I try to re-install Windows XP it shows a black screen and does nothing else after the "gathering hardware information" screen. I have tried both of my Windows XP boot disks and it does the same thing.

Is this normal and what should I do.

Just delete the partitions, there is no need to uninstall.

No need to uninstall what. And is the Windows XP boot disk not supposed to work with Linux installed

There is no need to uninstall anything. Your boot cd should work so long as the cd is set to boot from the cd drive before the hard drive in the system bios.

The CD does boot it just crashes after analyzing hardware information screen. I know I can't possibly be the only person having this problem.
I ran Memtest and I know theres nothing wrong with my memory.
My hard drive can't be causing a problem.
I think stated in my first post that the windows CD does boot but it crashes and that I want to get rid of Linux and use only windows on that computer.

Distro is Fedora core 4.

The fact that windows is crashing can't really have anything to do with linux being on the drive. If you delete all of the partitions on your hard drive you'll be able to know for sure.

Linux was causing problems.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you did to solve the problem? I bet you someone will later be searching the forums and have the same exact problem. It'd be nice for that person to know what the fix was.

I think that my hard drive (not sure what brand) had incorrect disk geometry.
The problem was fixed by removing Linux partitions.
I am able to install Windows again now.
I am not using a dual boot system between windows and fedora core.

You blame linux because your drive had incorrect drive geometry which the windows xp install disc was unable to decipher without crashing? :confused:
