So you thought posting in a Linux technical forum would be a good place to get an answer for this???

As with anything in life, if you want to definitively know something, you ASK.

James: Like TB0ne said, just ask. You'll get an answer. If he said yes, good for you, if not, see if you and him can just be friends or something. Don't obsess over it. As nike says, just do it. Good luck

Agreed.

And James...this is no more difficult than it is for someone who is straight. Can't tell you how many girls/guys obsess over this, fearing that a friendship will get 'weird' if they ask if someone has feelings for them. If it does, then your friendship isn't as strong as you thought. However, it probably won't, unless you start THINKING it has...it'll be a self-fulfilling kind of thing.

What an odd question to be asking on a Linux forum... either way, theirs always the chance that they will say 'no' to the question 'are you gay?' out of fear so you would probably have to come out your self first.
