Was looking some old threads like:-
I've got most of this s/w- testdisk, photorec etc . . .
but - a issue that I've encountered twice - recently,
"it won't work" says the owner . .
turn it on - sit's on the M$ start screen (W6, & W7)
boot a 'nix disk - use Gparted - there is the usual yellow warning
on C: drive - so the 'nix disk can't / won't read it . .
( file table error) ( use checkdsk /f )
but I can't do that - there is no checkdsk - that I've found
- using a cli search of executables - on the stuffed drive.
Gparted won't check / fix it either. .
without a working file table
- I can't use 'nix to recover their data or - the O/S itself . .
most of the commerical s/w that is used to recover, in this situation,
only runs under a working M$ enviroment - so the dead hdd - has to be slaved to this working M$ O/S & the recovery s/w installed
What I'd really like - is to use a recovery based cd - like bartsPE
- which I also have - but none of them are really that good in this < bad table> situation
obviously it can be done - commercial firm do this,
so - how do I get that NTFS data - back - with a stuffed file table ??.
