Recommend me an internet radio station

...I'm getting a little bored with a small variety of familiar radio stations (i.e the bbc). Though I could just listen to an album, sometimes you just get the urge for something live... also, listening to someone else's choice (within of course the bounds of a style of music you prefer to listen to) broadens your own horizon, and, well, makes life more interesting.

I like a little of almost everything. I have a large classical music collection (baroque to modern), I love jazz and blues, I listen to a lot of classical rock, folk, country, reggae, some talkies; e.g. bbc world service, modern(ish) rock, 60's, 70's...

Some global stuff would be cool too. I want to hear what people listen to in Manchuria, and Australia, and America...

Hey. I was even listening to a Chassidic Jewish folk radio station the other day. Not for all that long, though it was certainly different.

Anybody fancing sharing some radio stations?

WMMT in the hills of Kentucky someplace streams a nice variety of semi-popular music. I get a kick out of hearing such a sophisicated mix from deejays with a hillbilly accent.

What I listen to almost all the time is either RadioParadise, Indie 103.1, or KCRW

Take a look at www.di.fm

There's a lot of techno in there but if you scroll down it has other stuff like classical and jazz and stuff. It might be limited as far as your tastes but it's at least an option.

EDIT: @auditek747: I never knew about that shoutcast site. I like it and it has stuff from di.fm in there, too. Kinda like a one-stop-shop. Thanks!

www.radioparadise.com , though you can easily find it through shoutcast. They seem to have a pretty good variety of music. Eclectice rock, classic, a little modern, and also quite a lot of independant artists. Pretty good station IMO, check them out.

[edit]

One more thing, if you want a good way to search for radio stations under linux, check out a program called streamtuner. It not only searches shoutcast, but live365, and some others too. http://www.nongnu.org/streamtuner/

live365.com

Streamtuner can no longer get www.live365.com anymore, at least when I try, I get nothing.

I tried pinging the site then, going into the hosts file putting the result in there like I had to for Shoutcast, but that solution did not work.

Any ideas? the ping result was: 216.235.95.145
When tuning in, I see on the status bar: 216.235.91.33... but I can't seem to get at the rest.

Check out boomerradio.com.

As for Live365, if you have the right plugins you can just run it out of Firefox. Works fine, though I'd have to do some research to see how my FF is set up so it will work.

Streamtuner hasn't been updated in 4 or 5 years; would be nice if someone would take it over. Live365 has changed how it does things and so you can't use streamtuner with it.
