Reagan dollar bill

What denomination would you suggest for the Reagan dollar bill push. Right now, the push is for the $10 bill. That's Hamilton he would replace. Myself, I think Hamilton's ideals would have been better for this country than Jefferson's, which are what most of our laws are based on now. (Individualized responsibility and punishment versus government judgement and oversight restricting individual actions.)

My vote is, though I don't think any decision (on most laws) should be made for at least a few years, just to let emotions die down and truths to emerge, that he should replace andrew jackson, or one ot the non-presidents. Just my opinion, however. Vote your peace, but it would be nice if you stated your situation, whether a citizen or not, or if you're someone that hated the man.

I was a kid, but at the same time, I remember how he made most of us feel proud to be citizens of the (powerful) USA. What president has done that before or since? I'm not saying it wasn't arrogant or anything, but what's wrong with being proud of your country, barring Nazi-like fanatisism? I grew up with the thought that the "ruskies" might parachute into our town one day, and our kids games were like that. I'm sure some Russian kids had the same fear of us, at times. That's just the way things were back then.

My vote is for the $5 dollar bill. I'd like to see him replace Lincoln.

Oh, c'mon, you've got to give a more detailed reason than that. After all, Lincoln was tall, freed slaves, and had to deal with a psycho wife (or vice versa, who knows). I guess my initial reaction to your comment is that there might be a racial tone to it, and I'm totally against anything like that, and I'm against the PC police.

I just don't want your opinion taken out of context, I suppose. If you meant it raicial, than you should be slammed for it, but I'm hoping you're more intelligent than that.

What bothers me most is that I feel like I have to type this out....

racial ??? LOL
?? you mean the fact Lincoln was a slave owner... and was for quite a while after the end of the civil war ???
or he 'fought' to free slaves.... or ... he played both sides... perhaps he should get on both sides of the $5 ??

gee... he killed more Americans than every war since the civil war combined ... you can look at it from 101 directions and non of them make a great deal of sense today..

but seriously, its just Ronald Reagan and he's only just died.

Ive nothing against the guy but its usual to wait a while before sticking people on currency....

I think Richard Nixon should go on the $10 Dollar Bill before Reagan.
As an Australian, when I think of the US, Nixon is the president that best represents the country for me.

Azraelder

ps It was a little while ago but did Nixon get a state funeral like Reagan did?

Are you serious? If you are, could you please expound on just exactly what chemicals you were on during history class. They musta been something if you honestly think Lincoln was a slave owner AND managed to survive Booth putting a bullet in his brain.

I am not an American so I don't like to judge.
However it should be remember that since 1988. The US has fought 4 wars (Panama, Gulf War I, Afghanistan/Al-Qaeda, Gulf War II) against people / groups Ronald Reagan trained and / or armed. It amazes me that people regard him as a great president. Even if he was responsible for the cold war ending (personally I think that was more because of the inherent flaws of communisim) his record of replacing one big enemy with lots of small enemys does not seem to me that great.
It is possible that his goverment if had not trained Osama Bin Laden, Osama would have died fighting the Russians and Al-Qaeda would never have existed.

I think the public should not worry about this. The man has not even been burried and people are already arguing about what bill to slap his face on. When the time comes I'm sure congress will vote upon which bill to put him on if they think he warrants being put on a bill at all. There is about 25-30 or so other deceased presidents that are not on any bills or coins at all.

Most of you may/or may not remember the "Berlin Wall"
it is because of Reagan that this "Wall" no longer exists,
and Germany is a much better country now that it's gone!!

I think he should go on the $1 COIN. He's popular enough that maybe this time around the $1 coin would succeed. Then, we could finally ditch those glitchy paper bill feeders on vending machines in favor of good old reliable coin operation instead.

Do you think that communism was such a great system that it would be still with us today if it was not for Reagan ?
Of course not it did not work.

The wall fell because there was democractic reform in other eastern block countries so it became meaningless because they could leave via Hungary.

People did not want communism because they could see the life in the west (not just the US) and realised that things could be better.

oops I meant his Jefferson of course... (p.s. if you watch bedazzled he escapes just before the fateful shot!)

anyway here is what Lincoln though of 'black races'
Quote:
Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything.

But don't presume anyone would learn that in history class.... Why would anyone let alone a non American learn about American presidents in history class except when they actually interact elsewhere...

It always strikes me as odd that Americans expect everyone to know their list of presidents or constitution - we dont learn this in history, believe me. Indeed learning lists of kings/queens/presidents etc. is really discouraged ...

You probably presume I must be stupid to mix up Lincoln and Jefferson but do you know who was Queen of Spain after Ferdinand VI ? or King of Denmark between Erik I and Erik II ??

I very much doubt it but why would you?

What I was pointing out is why when someone said he should replace Lincoln should that automatically mean its for racial reasons. Look back and see the thread I was referring to !

My personal opinion is why bother.... he wasnt a bad president but like someone else said there are 30 others who arent on a bill. However most importantly its 'appropraite' to wait a decent amount of time..to decide if he was great or not....

Simialrly with the statement that its because of Reagan the Berlin Wall no longer exists is just niaeve!
Dont you think Gorbecchev had anything to do with it, perhaps even a little more than Reagan.

Sure Reagan could have been an idiot and messed it up... and he wasnt but that hardly makes him responsible for it.

Well, although I wouldn't have a say i.e. no American, I have absolutely no idea why people are "blowing the Reagan trumpet". I don't recall any instance, or any particular thing that either "he" did or made happen.

From an outsiders point of view, he was, just as George "dubya" is at the moment. A complete and utter glove puppet.

It matter's not that he was probably a nice person, he was just a front man for some very nasty, suspicious "back room string pullers'".

Put him on the 9 dollar bill - about as fake as he was.

regards

John

p.s. And no, my post isn't just to be controversial, I believe that with Reagan, just as with Bush Jr, US citizen's have absolutely no idea of how the rest of the planet see's these two particular president's - and the US media (all types) are shit scared of being critical, because of the financial power behind "dubya" and Reagan before him.

Ronald Reagan was clearly one of the most outstanding Presidents in US history. Economic progress and the modification to the role of the Federal Government and the guidance to the peaceful completion of the Cold War are monumental achievements
