"Quiet" power supply buzzes speakers

As the title says, I have a full size case that had a ton of fans for cooling. After 5 years of mind numbing fan noise, I decided to go the quit route. The first step was to remove a few fans from the case and install one of the Antec super quiet power supplies. Well, fan noise wise, it's great, but now, I get a buzzing sound through my speakers. Is there a way to make this go away or do I just need to go back to the old power supply?

i get that sometimes....
its when the cable from my sound card to my speakers gets too close to wires carrying frequencies within the usual hunan hearing range...

for example the Mouse cable, or poer cable. it induces small currents in the wire which the speakers smplify.

place the sound card in te PCI slot furthest away from the Power supply and power wires (running to hard disks)

and try to keep speakers and the audio wire away from sources of interference. just 10cm clears up the problem on my machine.

Thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully I can move the wires around and make it go away. Unfortunately for me, it's a built in sound card. Moving it can be a little scary!

hi,

the other thing to check would be unused soundcard inputs - particularly microphone... mute anything that you're not using.

Well, I had a chance to run home and try a few things. It ended up being the CPU fan. The built-in fan connector I guess was interfering with the sound system. I unplugged it from the motherboard and used a separate 3-pin connector and it worked fine. I guess when I removed the case fans I ended up plugging the fan into the motherboard. Anyway, thanks for your help guys.
