If your concerned about it, you could get a 5600 instead. They have a decent increase in RAM, CPU processor speed, and battery size. So that would probabably help the cause.
You have to remember that the 5500 only has 64Mb of RAM and a 200Mhz processor. Would you really be that surprised to fire up your Pentium 1 and then bitch that it doesn't open files fast enough? I'd be happy the damn thing booted in the first place!
Seriously though, you could go with the 5600 or even buy a CF or SD card and put a Swap partition on there. It will likely burn out the card faster, but if you need fast loading apps, that's a solution. There also is a little "semi-hidden" feature of the Z's that allow you to make certain applications load faster than others. In effect, you preload the app on boot, that way it's already loaded into RAM, instead of having to wait for the app itself to load, then wait for the file to load on top of that. Offhand I think the text editor is not one of those applications. However, you can easily change that by holdingthe stylus on the applications icon and wait for a second. A preferences window will pop-up in which you can set it to fast load. I try to conserve RAM by turning most of them off (except the ones I usually use).
From my experience though, I've opened up HUGE kismet dumps on a 5600 and it doesn't take more than 10-15 seconds.
