I was listening to National Public Radio (because my favorite station started Christmas music only just after halloween and I HATE pushing the season) and caught a small portion of a serious discussion with a commedian about language. He had predicted that Trump would do far better than anyone else there predicted, due to his language.

The idea makes a warped kind of sense. Ignorant people or people who are lazy thinkers might watch him on television and see someone expressing the authority they WISH they had, who does not understand science (like them), does not trust anyone not in his pocket (like them), and uses short and easily parsed words (like them), and they will understand and vote for someone the understand even if they think him stupid and slow compared to the other choices that they do NOT understand. That language matters a LOT more than we normally give it credit for.

No one anted to listen to him when he started saying these things (Day 1 of the Trump entry into politics), though he pointed out that in his life he had often seen the bumbling poorly educated clown that critics discounted take over a government (he grew up in South Africa I believe), and it could happen here.

I think he may be onto something. Certainly it is worth thinking about. I wish now that I had listened long enough to catch his name.

I believe the comedian you are referring to is Trevor Noah. He replaced Jon Stewart on the Daily Show.

I watched some Daily Show, but it is not the same. It was way better with Stewart. I just have to find a way to fill the time now until Bill Maher returns in Jan.

Rant mode on. But need a step ladder to get on the soap box.

First. These deviled eggs are good and I am a happy camper.

Cruising linux forums. Where I consider most IT folks to be smarter than me. I read things like

Quote:
It will be a refreshing change to have a president that does not owe the corporations, banks, and other countries big favors.
Trump will not bow or courtsy to the king of saudi arabia like Obama did.
Quote:
Most americans have no real issue with legal immigration. It is the uncontrolled borders that bother most people. You don't know who is coming in.
The people that live near the border are in constant fear.I can agree with you on uninvited invaders, be them immigrants or soldiers. A country has to fight for its sovereignty or be absorbed.
'I'm in a room full of liars': Trump reams execs and anchors from 'the dishonest media' at 'candid' meeting
Ok. Trump has holdings in Saudi Arabia. Ties with the Koch Bros. Who incidentally have ties with Hitlers 3rd reich.

Then a so called free thinking linux user gloats over censoring the press and newspapers as liars and biased. A dictators/despots dream foot soldier in action.

I am starting to wonder if it is because I am so uneducated is what makes me see the trees from the forest. Because I just can't figure it.

Hand me back my step ladder please. Rant mode off.

Back to my deviled eggs. Wash them down with some egg nog.

PS. I live on the Border next to Mexico. No constant fear going on in my neck of the world.

I have relatives in New Mexico ranch country, and there is a little tension at all times about outsiders. Wetbacks are generally not a worry, they are just people desperate to find a better place, work hard, and make a living. That is kinda how all white people GOT here, so they feel a sympathy there. The bigger worry, is the Federal Officers: the fear is that they will try to put you off the land your great grandfather registered and that your family has ranched ever since, or worse tell you "yup, you can stay on the land but you can only ranch it the way we tell you". The other worry is drug runners, many of them that cross borders legally, but engaged in illegal drug trade and ready to shoot for little or no reason. Kind of a tossup if the druggers are worse than the feds, or the other way around. My take is the feds are worse, they bring guns AND lawyers!

Border patrol does a good job, but there are just too many people, too many miles, and no wall or fence is gonna help that. The Soviets tried that in Germany, and never were able to stop all unauthorized crossings: and they were FAR more ruthless than I ever want us to become.

PS. That wall in Germany was terrible expensive at WWII time prices, today it would begger nations, and we have a LOT more miles to consider! If the U.S. cannot afford it (we cannot) then poor little Mexico with about 12% of our economy is sure not able!

Which is normal in any rural area. Around the world. Constant fear? No, I don't see it.
We are a pragmatic bunch on the border.

I don't live in constant fear of rattle snakes, rabies, scorpions, anthrax <it is in the soil>, or
zika virus either. For others to judge what we think and feel from their desks is bull pucky and snake oil sales tactics.

It takes a certain type of human to live in the Wild West. Fear of imaginary things is not a real big trait I see out here. Not like in the big cities. Where bad people roam in gangs preying on others.

Last time I rode a bus to Philadelphia. When I had to leave the Greyhound station. A cesspool of
of grifters and what ever else one can think of. Walking 4 blocks to the bus transfer point to take me to Moms place in NJ. When a crack addict with a knife came at me yelling and screaming.

I was not afraid. Because. I was reaching for my old USMC Kabar secreted in my motorcycle vest.
Like I said. Wild West Border mentality.

Its funny about the whole 'fake news' hoohaa, and how Facebook bears responsibility. CNN/CBS/ABC/FOX are losing ground and still in denial.

Well if this guy is correct, I also do see that Marie Le Pen will win France, Wilders will win Holland, and Merkel will be out on her ass too.

" I was reaching for my old USMC Kabar secreted"

Your Texas CHL would have been honored there as it gives you the right to protect yourself. If you didn't have a CHL you could have spent a mandatory year in jail.

Your Republican elect provided you a way to acquire a CHL. The Democrats don't believe you have a need to protect yourself.

If you are stereotyping groups of people, yes. Myself as an unclassifiable (but) human, I say we can't fight the times only try to change minds. Do you what "y"our kids, friends, family or anyone to have to defend themselves? We are all taught wrong from birth! Parents are dictators,,, "brains," hard-drives...
