just read a thread about a zaurus and it sounds cool. got me to wondering if anyone out there is familiar with and has managed to get a psion linked to a linux box. i know there is a howto and there are utilities to do the job, but i would like to hear any personal experiences or advice-i was impressed with the psion; it comes with infrared port, serial port, digital audio record capability and uses compact flash cards for additional drives-has its own keyboard and a touchscreen. i have two of them, but the company is defunct and they no longer are made, but they could still be useful as companion databases-they're larger than a palm pilot but still very handy; can even web browse w/a suitable modem-mako had something similar out not too long ago.
thanks for any input.
i haven't done much with the psion lately,as there's always something higher in priority. i had a tool pkg a while back, but its whereabouts is currently unknown. i have two psion5's and they are very nice little units-voice recorder, infrared, keyboard, compact flash-they are handy; i kept job records, maps, and lots of little apps and databanks. it would be nice to backup my daily info to the pc from it. i'd like to see what the latest models are offering.
thanks, snash, your post got me to poking around again, and now it's happening. the utilities are plptools. after some learning experiences with "options", i was surprised and pleased to find the psion mounted and open at /mnt/psion on kde3-now to see if i can find a way to read the files on the pc-first, to find out what format the psion uses, and then to see if there is a conversion utility out there. the jpgs dragged right off the psion and onto the pc and were viewable.
i like the psion5, but i'd like to know what the latest version offers. a bigger color screen would be nice, but not so big it would compromise the box's portability-more memory built-in and ultimately-linux.
my guess is that if you're with freebsd then linux won't be onerous. there's a ton more to know than i'm gonna get to, but getting it to do something you want done is a challenge with a nice double reward-knowledge and function.
thanx again for the impetus to get this done.
