Project Looking Glass...

E-Week just had an update on PLG recently (found at http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1631949,00.asp ) but the question remains the same:

Companies won't migrate to something like this unless there's a reason, so how is this more productive than current 2d environments? I'm all game for eye-candy and fanciness, but honestly, are there truely advantages to having a 3d environment for things like spreadsheets, documents, etc?

Has anyone tried this out yet? If so, what are your impressions on it?

I've tried out the first beta release some time ago, it was pretty crappy back then. It couldn't really run any apps other than the included demo apps.
I don't think this is really ment as a production environment, more like a showcasing what can be done with such technologies.

Yeah - this has been out for quite some time. The point is not that it should be used, but it showcases (as djbanaan says) what can be done.

I have tried it (on a Sun stand at an expo) and while it's nice and makes you go "wooo" a bit, I would never see it as being in anyway useful.
