problem in connecting mysql


hi,
i am using fedora core2, i tried to update the mysql 3.58... to mysql 4.10.
but now i am not able to conncet with mysql server . i m gettinfg an error

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111)

and i could not the file name 'my.cnf'

how do i solve this problem help me

usually this means that mysqld isn't running. try mysqladmin ping and see what it says.

as for the my.cnf, make a new one, or start it with command line stuff, or use /etc/init.d/mysql.
