May I make a (probably vain) appeal for maturity, logic & reason here?

Before 2015, debates may have been robust, but I never heard one American Politician insult another. Insult their views, their stance on issues, sure. During Trump's time as President, the Excited States became the Disunited States, and sides are farther apart than ever. Now who is president there is for you to decide, but could I make a plea for a mature debate? Because whoever thinks up the best insults and repeats them most often is not necessarily your best candidate.

Just going to let Sundialsvcs know that I’m not even reading his posts anymore. I assume I’m not the only one.

The beauty of any public Internet forum is that "you can ignore anyone you like," and you don't even have to tell them. (And, they don't even have to care. "Nothing personal," however.)

- - -

In my view, what we are today seeing is something that is becoming impossible to ignore. We have seen it before on the public stage with Lenoid Brezhnev. (We carefully avoided seeing it with "Ronnie.") But it is a horrible and inevitably-fatal disease for which there is no cure.

However, just as with Brezhnev, there are people who are ruthlessly driving this forward to pursue their own political ambitions. Until, finally, "the man dies." Which, in my experienced estimation, "can't be long, now."

They have spent ... all this time ... "pretending." Until, finally, Lord Death comes (at last ...) to remove all pretense. "Hurry up!"

I predict that very soon we will experience "a Truman moment," when the incumbent President dies in office (as Brezhnev finally did ...) and the Vice-President is handed "the keys, and everything that goes with it." I, for one, am very(!) interested in what might happen next. I might well even vote(!) for her.

Pot------> Kettle

I'll concede that they're both old and that Biden isn't at the top of his game. However, Trump's word salad has increased exponentially since he won in 2016. Take a look at his recent Fox interviews. He's unhinged during a soft ball interview.

Some turned a blind eye to it but it had clearly begun eating him early in his first term. By the start of his second term he couldn't do much except recite lines with prompting.

Anyway, what I see with this current pair is that the US based news edits the hell out of the videos of Biden albeit subtly. Given enough minutes of video to cherry pick a few seconds from, anyone old or young can be made to look steady or unsteady as decided by the editing team. Compare that to most video news outside the US where longer, unabridged clips are provided. He looks good there. Recall how the opposite was done back in the day to make little Bush appear more capable than he was through selective editing. Back then the US clips showed only part of the answer to questions, the part where he was on a roll. The clips outside the US showed revulsion to the asking of the question, the subsequent confused looks, the apparent listening to prompts, the recomposure, and the ramping up of the answer. It continues today.

If they ALL did it would cripple the US economy and decimate several industries and US healthcare! Canada might experience a boom though, so some good might result!

We're already having a lot of aliens streaming into our country; this is nothing new.
I predict that the presidential debates of 2024 will be a repeat of 2020. Two old guys talking, not listening to each other.

A whole lot of very interesting things have happened in this country since Barak Obama promised to “transform this country” and, at the time, no one fully understood what it meant. Just like all those “good Germans” and “good Poles,” we refused to think that “such a thing could actually happen HERE.” But, as it turns out, “Marxism” and “Fascism” and “Nazism” all speak to a very elemental rhythm to the human psyche. Even at a level that we are reluctant to admit.

Plenty of “Good Germans” and “Good Poles” willingly refused to see it, and plenty of them subsequently died.

“Herr Goebels” said it best. As did many other scholars of mass psychology.

This is their play. Using the “legal system” as their tool, and “media/propaganda” to conceal it. Historians wrote in retrospect, about (e.g.) Japan, Italy, and Germany. But about themselves? Did they see it? Did they choose to?

Invoking Godwin by comparing Obama to leaders from Nazi Germany is sad. Obama respects the US constitution and the rule of law. The former convict president does not. The convict worships dictators past and present.
Back on topic.
I would enjoy a respectful presidential debate. I suspect it'll be a slug fest.

If your mind is closed, please don’t enter “conversation.” Just listen to yourself talk, and be happy.

Of course, “Presidential debate” is merely the illusion of choice. Your “two” choices have been pre-ordained. “Republican” is the Red side, while “Democrat” is blue. Either way: “one coin.”

Abraham Lincoln won, for instance, against a slate of four viable candidates. That hasn’t happened now in a very long time. The ruling political machine isn’t called “Tammany Hall,” but it is no different. The illusion of choice. It doesn’t matter in the slightest who you “pick” since the Machine owns both of them. ”There are trillions of dollars at stake.”

American citizens haven’t actually been able to “vote” for many decades. Every few years they are presented with a carefully engineered “choice.” Yet, somehow, it makes them feel good. It makes them feel Free.

Irony.

You compare the incumbent party to the Nazis, even though the presumptive nominee of the opposing party is the one displaying Nazi-like tendencies. But you can't see that, because that's not what Fox news wants you to see.

I will leave it entirely to you to decide who in all of American history has exhibited “Nazi-like tendencies” As for myself, I have compared absolutely no one and no party to them, and I never intend to do so.

Although: “The President who now appears on our Dime” was ruthlessly compared to the very same people that he ultimately faced. Before the war began. And, in fact, since. Politics is never kind.

And please remember the protocol. (“Fox News …”) We are not discussing one another.
