Because currently only the VESA driver is compatible with my integrated nVidia 7025. I'm sure that'll get fixed any day/week/month now though.

One the hazards of being bleeding edge.

Just to be complete thought I'd try the nouveau drivers after a few hours sleep. They crashed too, just like Xorg's nv driver and nVidia's proprietary driver. So now I can say emphatically: I've tried everything and nothing works.
