Practical

An Xterm on the desktop in my 'newstuff' directory, which when I issue a command, filters and shows only .rars, .zips, .tgz/.tar.gz, .001, .002, etc, in the xterm window, so that I can unrar, unzip, or cat, whatever (it uses the 'less' command for formatting (space to next page, and page numbering).

Also Xpad at the bottom of the screen for temporary notes.

linus72 can take a plain ordinary desktop and make it WOW!!!

He must be a graphic artist.

Do you have a resolution thats like insanely wide or something?
EDIT: 3040x900?! What kind of monitor have you got? Now THATS what I call a 'widescreen.'

No. What I think it he has is dual monitors. For some reason, if you have dual monitors and don't mirror the screens what you get is a very long screenshot.
