My new backgrounds on my workstation

Anyone who knows where it's from gets a cookie ;)

Mark7 05-06-2011 05:02 AM

It looks Borgish.

So something to do with Star Trek?

rsciw 05-06-2011 05:06 AM

Nope, nothing to do with the Borg or Star Trek in general.

(will let 2 more guesses come up by anyone, before I reveal, if not found out by then. Don't want to drag it on for ages ;) )

brianL 05-06-2011 06:47 AM

No idea, but I don't think those girls come from Oldham. :)

name of file seems to be giveaway

Can't get far in this link yet:

http://section-nine.org/

But a wikipedia search indicates that Public Security Section 9 is a group of fictional characters in the Ghost in the Shell storyline.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Security_Section_9

Man, the Major is hot. And the Tachikomas are so damn cute. In listening, it seems to me that the same voice actresses are used in Dungeon and Dragons Online game for the mining Kobalds in the pirate-themed area. And because of this, the spunky Kobalds are also so damn cute. "Who da Kobald!" "Don't mess with the union!"

The image looks a bit like the Puppetmaster from the film.

rsciw 05-06-2011 09:49 AM

lol BrianL

ehawk: Not bad, but also wrong. You were on the right path though.
Ghost in the Shell is written by Masamune Shirow. The images on my screen are from the anime "Appleseed Ex Machina", sequel to "Appleseed", based on the manga Appleseed also written by Masamune Shirow :)

You also nailed though where I got my domain name from ;)

Which of the voice actors for Motoko would that be in the DnD Online game?
Apparently there are four, though I'm only aware of Mimi Woods in the original movie and Mary Elizabeth McGlynn for SAC, but none of those are listed as voice actor in the above game
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/...toko-Kusanagi/

there's not much on the website, hence I have that index page there. just have it because I wanted that domain ;) But use some directories for images as above (but that's a bit OT)

On a side note: the OST to all GitS works are amazing, especially Kenji Kawai's music to the first two movies. Just wow

Nice domain name. I'm jealous.
Definitely not much there, you should put up something super awesome.

Looks like Star Trek Online.

ehawk 05-06-2011 10:31 AM

I meant the voice actresses for the Tachikomas (childlike and cute)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachikoma

"Tachikoma are controlled by individual AIs, are capable of speech and generally exhibit a childish, curious, joyful and active personality, although they are consummate professionals in the field."

List of cute kobald quotes:

http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=311020

I looked the list of voice actresses for the Tachikoma, and didn't see D&D among the voice credits for any of them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4kN9...eature=related

Here, the kobold part starts around 3:51 and gets funny after about 7:00

"I'm a double-barreled kobald! I'm a kobald on the edge!"

rsciw 05-06-2011 12:05 PM

ehawk: I see where you're coming from with the voices :)

nomb: tbh, I wouldn't know what to put up there in the first place.
Like this, with no actual content, I at least cannot 'discredit' GitS's Section 9 somehow ;)

STO is, as Replica9000 correctly stated, Star Trek online
(also have http://section-nine.org/dao/ and http://section-nine.org/da2/ - Dragon Age Origins and Dragon Age 2)

Regarding domain name, I also have
sec9.eu, which I use as domain shortener ;) Only short one available though with a fairly good TLD :|
All my Linux machines, physical or virtual, are named S9-$designation as well.

ya, one can say I like GitS ;)

I never quite understood the appeal of a tiling window manager…I suppose the typically claimed advantage is that it allows better usage of screen real estate, but what if you're on a small display to begin with? Having window contents crammed into the corners of the screen just doesn't seem appealing to me. :-\

Don't get me wrong, it does make things look neat and tidy, but I dunno…to me it would just feel too "smooshy", I guess. :p

Oh, that, and I've been raised on Windows at home and Mac OS at school (I kinda discovered Linux "by accident" :p), so stacking/"floating" window management has kinda always been the norm for me.

I also never really "got" tiling WMs. What if I want a window to be a specific size (which it most of the time), not stretched to fit together?

Then you resize its part of the screen. Also, all tiling WMs that I have tried so far had a floating modus, so that you can easily change to it if needed.

I don't tile objects on my physical desktop, why should I tile things on the desktop on my screen? On the other hand, it would be nice if my physical desktop had something akin to a task bar :D
