Those are just dockapps with a transparent slit.

Right on. I never tried fluxbox. I just might now
Mostly used KDE, but today I installed Dropline-Gnome so I'm playing with it right now. I really don't have to worry much about resource consumption (I do try to keep it minimal though) so the only reason for me using a more minimalistic wm would be if it looked cool as yours does KDE with most all the eye candy and like 5 apps opening at start-up and I still only use around 100mb's of ram after boot. Not bad...

hey hey... just thought I'd post mine. It changes on a regular basis. I do Like fluxbox aswell... it's pretty simple and clean

How do people get the sensor displays etc on their desktop like in the second screenshot? I've seen that in KDE, Gnome, fluxbox...

make sure that you have the correct version of gkrellmms for the version of gkrellm that you are using. to find the version in terminal try
right click on the device and see if there is an about tab within configure.

thanks again joesbox.... got it goin alright - problem was with xmms itself (redhat version devel rpm was 1.27 & xmms bin is 1.28) - everything sorted out after upgrading ...
