are you meaning to say that you can not put a wallpaper on your background?? do you know where your styles are? if not then look here
~/.fluxbox/styles/
there may or may not be a list of files there. there may not even be a styles folder depending on how new your flux install is. what you can do is move your BB styles over here and make sure that you convert them for fluxbox (that is open one of the styles and look for a line that reads
rootCommand: bsetbg (or bsetroot) bsetroot/bsetbg is the command to place the wallpaper that you want. you can read up on it using man bset*

if you need more help take it out of the thread an you can pm me.

Thanks

All I did, was add this line to my .fluxbox/init file:
session.screen0.rootCommand: wmsetbg -f ~/custom_shit/screenshot-00

The end of the line is the path to the image I want to use.

*edit: This method will override any style. Meaning, if you use a style that commands a certain background, but you want a different image, this is the way to do it.

or you can edit the style to point to the image that you want.

This is NUTS! None of the above will work although they should! I even uninstalled and re installed and nothing. I edited style/currentstyle to point to a .jpg in my home directory and no bg. I edited init as suggested and no bg. I get "no wmbgset found." Is that a Slack thing? Here's what's wierd too: I can get bg no problem running flux as root, and can get bg in blackbox as root and user, but cannot get a bg up to save my life using flux as user. A permission problem? Where to look? I've edited my IceWM files for over a year to cusomize menu's and preferences, but this one's got me stumped!

you can also issue the wmsetbg command from a terminal, like $ wmsetbg /files/pictures/wallpaper.jpg to test it.

I wish I could see your screenshot but can't since you have it with Yahoo/Geocities. I tried this once before with them and it took a while for me to figure out that I could see my picture but no one else could..
it works if you copy and paste the link.

I was using wmsetbg and it didn't work, nevertheless I figured it out. RedHat 9 is looking for xsetbg instead of wmsetbg to run the background. I changed it accordingly and I have BG!

Thanks everyone for taking time to try to help me! Your input kept me looking in the right directions!
