I'd like to start a petition for asking Apple to start selling movies and TV shows on iTunes without DRM. I sent an emailed DefectiveByDesign, and the person who responded said that a lot of people - at least DefectiveByDesign site-goers - would only sign the petition if it could be signed without using proprietary JavaScript code.
Are there any petition websites which don't require the use of proprietary JavaScript?

Yeah, know it might not have any effect, but it's worth a shot. I mean, they went DRM-free with their music back in 2009 - I don't see why they couldn't go DRM-free with their videos. It might be a long shot, but it's worth a try.
That's very interesting. I didn't know that JavaScript source code can be obscured. I thought the source had to be interpreted by the browser. Or is it more like Java where you have bytecode which is interpreted at runtime?
Would you happen to know if Change.org uses proprietary JavaScript. If not, do you know of any petition sites which do not require you to run proprietary JavaScript to be able to sign a petition?

The browser interprets the obscured source. Not everything in plaintext is human-readable.

Not offhand, you can try installing librejs and see if the site is still usable.

Thanks for the reminder about LibreJS. I read about that plugin a year ago, but I had forgotten about it. I knew there was a plugin called NoScript, but that’s rather extreme, because it just keeps all JavaScript from running.
I tried every petition site I could find, but all of them required proprietary JavaScript. I give up. I'll just leave my petition on Change.org and hope someone will sign it. Besides, most “free software” advocates probably wouldn’t care either way because they probably never used iTunes - or in the very least, their votes might not matter much to Apple since they have no money invested in iTunes; they have no "skin in the game".
I used to use one for the guestbook at my boating website, but I disabled it because of spam. Perhaps ways of detecting spammers in forms have been improved since then (we're talking early aughts here).
Yeah, it is. The iTunes program itself is non-free and it's only available for Mac and Windows. Also, the videos have DRM, which is the reason for my petition.
Not sure about any sites that offer only opensourced code for a petition. There are plenty of ways to make web pages without scripts for sure.
I'd think that Hollywood won't let even Apple get away with selling the data without drm.
Apple is a reseller. You ought to petition Hollywood.
Good point. I assume the petition should be addressed to the individual studios. I couldn't find a list of studios which sell movies on iTunes, but I was able to compile a list of studios which sell TV shows on iTunes.
