1. give 1/2 away to worthy causes and charities
2. build some cool computers

that's about the limit of my imagination, after the obvious (travel, house, car, etc.)

Lots of things. Buy a house, a car, a new bass guitar. And the less fun stuff-- I'd pay of my debts, my parents' debts, my sisters' debts, my friends debts... Buy my old room mates a nice Condo to share while they are still going to school... Plus some presents.

Oh, I could do a lot of things if I had money.

Build an awesome gaming system with a T1 line for online gaming and probably just buy a house just for games, the whole house would be nothing but gaming systems, cables, massive monitors, huge speakers, automatic soda dispensers that send soda right to your seat while your playing or maybe like a long tube coming from a soda resevoir, massive game servers running my favorite games of course the servers would be Linux, and beds all over so you could nap after 5 or 6 hours of playing. Hmmmm what else?

Buy SCO licenses for all you linux users.
Oh hell, I would buy SCO outright just to shut them up. And with all of the money left over, hire some competent people to run it the right way for me.
As you can see, I just love SCO.

I would help out family and friends, and charities somewhat, and keep about two thirds. I'd build a fleet of cruise ships and buy some Linux based pcs, and pay someone to write games for Linux. Okay, maybe I'm pushing it, but one can dream.

If I won a Billion dollars, first thing I would do is probably have a heart attack, fall over and die.. So my first purchase would be a nice funeral and services to celebrate my life..

Well, since I would get about $490 Million after taxes here is what I would do.

480 Million-------go to Charities of my choice or start a foundation so that the money keeps giving for a longer time.

1 Million------to each set of parents.

1 Million------to each of my sisters (just 2).

6 Million------My wife and I.

I wonder if we at LQ can all start drinking tons of pepsi and split any winnings. That would be cool. Unless we didn't win

first i'd buy a playboy mansion type house.

then i'd buy out everything from interpunk.com and heroine records. then i'd get my college station to ugrade all its technologies and up the wattage to at least 1000 watts instead of a measly 10.

then i'd pay off everyones debts.

donate a crapload to the JRA society and leukemia foundation

then i'd just buy whatever the hell i wanted.

i would go back to my old home town, tie all their cats and dogs together in a ball(without hurting them) and roll them down the street. if anybody complained i would give them some money to shut them up.

ha ha ha, these are all great

I'd make a commercial with me and my billion and say:
"Mr President, I demand 100 Billion dollars"
And hold my pinkie to my mouth. And then I'd laugh like a Mad Scientist.

I'm sure nothing like that has been done before

Cool

Me,

Well, I'd look back at all the threads I've ever posted in,

Hire a private investigator to find you all,

Then I'd turn up on your door step unannounced with a case of beer and say thanks for the help.

When I'd done that, I'd pay someone to teach me about linux properly

regards

John
