Did anyone else click thinking it would be about the newsreader?

frankbell 10-12-2021 10:28 PM

I did, as I used Pan for years until usenet became useless. (I loved usenet.)

Me, I don't use "non-stick" pans. I use cast-iron pans that I inherited from my mother. They are as non-stick as it gets.

This forum is labelled as being to discuss things including non-Linux topics, and there is a smiley face in the title. :)

Although usenet as it was originally, may be useless as in more or less gone, but in a sense, usenet news is not gone. I use Thunderbird to read usenet-like news from www.eternal-september.org

Just for grins and giggles, I tried calling 1-800-pan-help. Nada, zilch, nothing.

Your mileage may vary.

Perhaps I should put more than one smiley face in the title of the post.

Although there is also a smiley face at the bottom of the post.

Oh, I know usenet is still there. But all the newsgroups that I used to follow have become useless spam pits.

A darned shame, really.

Back in the olden days, when I was a young 'un, usenet was where it was at.

I read some informative tech. stuff on the usenet-style news these days. But, ya, "Internet Forums" have largely replaced the use of usenet-like news. :-O

I don't use these anymore. As soon as the coating is blemished they start leaking poison. The usually underlying aluminium also isn't so healthy. And often too thin, too light.

I have 2 cast iron pans, and 1 stainless steel - they do everything, and better. And they can take all sorts of heavy duty (ab)use.

enorbet 10-13-2021 09:27 AM

upvote cast iron

dugan 10-13-2021 05:15 PM

I've had good experience with Scanpans. They work and they keep working, but you need to use them at very low heat or they break.

PTFE and enough of various metals can indeed be toxic. Yet I haven't scratched, etc., non-stick pots and pans, as long as I didn't use metal utensils with the non-stick stuff.

pam usage is a joke (on Slackware?)

I thot a Slack n00b (or hate_troll) had misspelled 'pam'

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-a-4175669418/

Title 'caught my eye' because I hate distros that have /etc/passwd so I stick (ooops, accidental pun in this thread) with mll

For me, 800-726-4357 (even *67 which is ignored for toll-free calls) eventually (after a few minutes) went fast-busy, after adding my ph# to the #1 most-used phone-spam database, I ASSuME.

From ddGoo, This isn't available, so I'll buy the GothamSteel one constantly advertised on GSN (using the $20 I was saving up for another netbook)

Oh PAM! Right. That's almost like the movement against pan abuse, only it's programs against being abused. Specifically Programs Against Modules - "don't fence us in, we have the right to roam freely". ;-)
