Out of HD mounting space - ideas?
Help guys I'm out of space for hard drives!
I have enough connectors on my motherboard for 10 hard drives (4 on ATA raid, 4 ATA, 2 SATA) but only enough in my `server` case for two 3 1/4" hard drives! (yet it has six 5 1/2" drive bays...) I know some cases such as AOpen cases come with an internal metal caddy that can be removed. This would be perfect but where can I get this? Maybe I could build something instead? |
Errmmm.. external perhaps? Buy another case, build another computer? Why the need for so many hard drives in one machine? Buy hard drives with more capacity.. etc.

I've got one mounted in a 5 1/2" space using spacers. I think the spacer came from a hard drive I bought years ago...
Check out a picture of it... http://img90.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img90...rddrive6iv.jpg Wouldn't be hard to make maybe it will give you some ideas. |
If you are looking for a good case with lots of room I would go with this case. I have one myself and I have 5 HDDs in it with no problems. I did mod my case a little to add 2 more fans (one on top and one on side panel) to allow for the heat generation of my old maxtor HDDs, but with my new seagates I hardly ever turn them on now.
