But Don't Quote Me On This...

Heard this one or its variants on a number of occasions.
"Had I known that I would be living this many years, I would have taken better care of myself."

As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: you liberate a city by destroying it. Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests. - Gore Vidal

So what's the flip side to, "those who can; do, and those who can't, teach?"

Quite frankly, teachers aren't paid enough!

But in Philosophy, a Student ought to doubt of the Things he fancies he understands too easily, as much of those he does not understand” (François-Marie Arouet, called Voltaire, ~ 1733)

Voltaire is fabulous. Philosophy, at that time *was* science and at the same time included what we call philosophy now. This specific letter concerns some of Isaac Newtons discoveries. In my opinion Voltaire's descriptions are a wonderful introduction to – and sums up very nicely – the scientific method which was introduced by Descartes, evolved but is more or less maintained until today.
