"A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it."
― Sador Labadal, Tolkien's The Children of Hurin.

"I choose to run towards my problems, and not away from them. Because's that what heroes do."
-- Thor, Thor: Ragnarok.

Do I smell a cross-over?

a whole world of fantasy fiction is heavenly inspired by, or maybe even based on, tolkien's work.

Another view on the so called Refugee Crises in Europe by Hagen Rether:
How our grand parents had to harvest tea for the Ceylonese fat cats
How our parents have slaved away on the cotton fields for the Indians
And the poor Saxons in the copper- and coltan-mines near Dresden
... only to allow the Congolese to have three more electronic devices
in their homes.
And the coffee- and cacao-plantations in the Palatinate
... generations of Palatines have devastated their health for these
disgusting African mega-concerns.
And the fleets of Somalian trawlers which emptied the North Sea of all fish
That's why many Frisians had to become pirates
Almost all our elephants have been shot
... for their chess pieces and piano keyboards
Now they come with their jeeps, doing safaris and observing the last elephants
in the Bavarian forest.

That's tough

And back then, when the Herero attacked Germany
... and the Genocide against the Swabians

(...)
Up to our knees, we stand in aggressive chemicals
... so you can, in Bangladesh, buy Blue Jeans for 7 Euros.

There would be so much to explain about how we do not have independent journals newspapers and how German television is organized differently from yours, because of and as a consequence of the experience of the Nazi-Regime. Take just that some of these Satirists have been neutralized for a while, when they became too aggressive, but that others have won court cases against the Chancellory who attempted to stop a broadcast.

"If you are going to kill a man, it costs you nothing to be polite." -- Winston Churchill

I also have a collection of quotes from less luminary sources here:

http://ciar.org/ttk/quotes

Near the top of that page are links to other people's quotes pages, plus two more of my own: "Shit said in Python" and "Shit said in Go", quoting choice bits from the freenode #python and freenode #go-nuts IRC channels.

Relatedly, "Code of Engineering": http://ciar.org/ttk/personal/engineering.html
