AronRa: "Psychiatrists define delusion as a fixed false belief that will not change despite evidence to the contrary and they have an exception in their medical journals that this applies except in the case of religion. Really. Seriously. Special exception. Why? If the belief is irrational as religious belief certainly is by definition then why can't we say so? Why are we being inappropriately polite to a debilitating cognitive impediment."
When a child kills an animal for fun, we fear mental illness. When an adult with the capacity to reason does it, we call it "sport." ~ Seth MacFarlane
Good and bad are opinions, psychiatrists the weathermen of science...

No worries, dogpatch.
That's one of my favourites as well.
Your reply got me thinking and I looked up some more quotes from Edmund Burke, so here's another one for ya below. I don't think it's as good as the last one I posted but, not a bad one anyway's...

Apparently, there are "quote" sites around with I assume all (or close to it) known and/or famous quotes.
Like this one and if your after more Edmund Burke quotes, have a look at this.
Paul Jorion, an economist (attérré/consternated), sociologist and anthropologist, who had predicted, like many others, the crises of the sub-primes:
« Non seulement elle [ l'espèce humaine ] n'est pas outillée pour faire face à son extinction, mais elle n'a pas véritablement non plus la volonté de le faire - ou plutôt si : elle le fera si on peut lui garantir que cela « rapportera » !»
“Not only is it [the human species] not equipped to consider its own extinction, but it does actually also not have the will to do it - or rather yes: it would, if you could garantee that this will ‘pay well’ !”
„Nicht nur ist sie [die menschliche Spezies] nicht ausgestattet, ihr eigenes Aussterben ins Auge zu fassen, ihr fehlt auch faktisch der Wille dazu - oder eher doch: Sie tut es, wenn man ihr garantieren kann, dass das sich ‚auszahlen wird’!“

“So far, there’s little to indicate they got that wrong” (Limits to Growth was right)
You will get survivalist or not, pull out your favorite Exoplanet or not, design intelligence or not, not many should care about that, either.
