Your post is mainly letting us know that your double posting.

Let's try sticking to one thread with the problem and try to give more information on what you have and what your trying to do.

Right off hand I would say you need to install gcc.

Most distros have it on the install disks and you would just need to install the development group of packages.

I cannot install the devel packages from the disk cuz of a RH bug that wont let you unless you have 2 older versions of the files that i have newer versions of so i downloaded gcc and it seemed to install but i dont know anything about programming or even how to get it in my path.

Can i talk about this here in this forum or will this post be closed? lol.

/home/user/.bash_profile

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/path/to/gcc

echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/home/david/bin:/path/to/gcc

Thanks Davidphillips for the help. I know this is gonna sound like homer simpson but how do i put gcc in my path, do i add /gcc to the end of /user/bin or something like that? I wish i could sit for hours and learn linux cuz its really fun but i usually only get a half hour or so on the weekends. Maybe if i would nock off the 5 hour long online gaming sessions i have i could learn more about linux. .thanks.

BajaNick - for illustration, if the directory you want to add is called /add/this/directory I believe all you need to do is this: export PATH="$PATH:/add/this/directory"

As a side note, just based on your previous comments in this thread, it sounds like you may be, ummm, "enthusiastic" about installing new packages/software on your system, which is great, but you might want to think about getting more familiar with A before moving on to B, and B before moving on to C, etc. In my experience, installing too many thing too quickly is a pretty good recipe for hosing your system. Just my 2 cents.

/home/user/.bash_profile

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/path/to/gcc

I don't know if I'm right or not but if bajanick posts this thread about his apologies about double posting and now mentions his problem in which everyone is replying to now in this thread, isn't this considered his triple post regarding the subject now??

Why don't we continue this in the original thread, really. But it already appears it might be resolved now.

Bajanick, do not double post. Also, do not create new threads to discuss your problem with an apology. You should have replied to your existing thread.
