Just curious, but is there any point whatsoever in this? Read that as an inquisitive question, not a short/curt degrading one.

Cool

Whitehat 01-24-2004 06:51 PM

The more I read the stuff posted in General the more I think that -General- should be gotten rid of.

:)

So much so that you amend this to every post you read in general?
Why not just stop reading it then?
The noise level would be minus your post count there daily.

I am not really wanting to slam you here or anything, but complaining about the posts you read is as pointless as silly word games.

I think there is a good reason to have a general forum. I think a policy about acceptable posts can be instituted as needed.

UltimaGuy 01-25-2004 01:56 AM

Whitehat, wherever I go in the -General- forum, I see posts from you.... that too about getting rid of it. If you are always in the general forum, then why should you suggest this? And if you don't like it, why are you reading threads and posting here?

Whitehat 01-25-2004 02:10 AM

2damncommon and UltimaGuy,

Just as you are posting replies to slam me....you are wasting posts too. I don't have a problem with General as much as I do with people posting absolute garbage in it.

Discussions about interesting info not related to Linux is good. Stuff like

**** X. *goes command-lineo*-my friend, again
</useless AIM quotes>

is just freakin' useless.

-General- has become a 15 year old Off Topic hang out that seems to discuss more and more brainless stuff.

I put it in like 2 posts. That's not every post. I'm simply stating the facts.....and you're picking a fight. Leave it alone. Unless you post usless crap in General I don't think you should be piping up.

Because there **USED** to be decent posts in General. I just wish there was a way to keep the morons out who post absolute crap. I really don't care how many times I've posted in general. Like I said before. Take the general posts out of everyone's post count. I don't care. I am not ALWAYS in the General forum. I am in every forum quite a bit. I can figure a TON out on my own, which is why I don't have a million posts in other forums. If you do a search on my posts you will see I have many replies in other forums but not many posts (that I have started threads with). I don't need to ask questions because the Search function works so well.

I think it is a decent forum, where sometimes a nut or two enters..:D

And, Whitehat, since you hate the -General- forum, what do you say about your profile :

acid_kewpie 01-25-2004 07:29 AM

children children.. calm down. ;)

sure there is some useless content in general, but there are still many threads that do a lot to develop a sense of community, and improve the site. Just need to take the rought with the smooth and move on to another post if you don't like a particular one.

Cheers

UltimaGuy 01-25-2004 07:38 AM

acid_kewpie, this is the same thing that I am trying, along with 2damncommon to hammer into Whitehat's head. If he does not like a thread, he can just go somewhere else. But saying that he does not like the -General- forum, when in fact more than 66% of his posts are in the -General- forum indicates either a serious lack of priorities or just plain nonsense. Sorry if my language is harsh, but I am pretty upset about visiting threads and seeing Whitehat's wisecrack comments about the -General- forum ...

Chu 01-25-2004 07:48 AM

Some people don't realise LQ is free, them posting bullsh*t is just a waste of precious bandwidth? :(

I understand what you are saying, and for your situation there are appropriate channels to go through. if you feel a post is inappropriate the click the Report Post link and report it to a moderator, that's what it's there for. We'd rather members didn't "air their dirty laundry in public".

As this post never got anywhere, or even vaguely made sense I am closing it now. Any queries please feel free to contact myself or Jeremy. cheers.

Megamieuwsel 01-25-2004 08:07 AM

Lessee.....
This forum is run by (if not owned , not sure) by Jeremy....
Ergo : Jeremy decides which Forums come into being....
Conclusio : Jeremy decided , there a use for a "General" forum and since it's not removed , hasn't changed his mind about it.
Who are YOU to decide , how someone should run his own boards?
