nytimes.com is sneaking ads for programmers as comments in the heads of its articles

Yeah lots of sites have variations of that approach, going back years. Too many sites have absolutely broken HTML and CSS. I have the feeling that anyone looking at the markup is not wanting to work there but to find out what went wrong:

Inspect Element -> select -> delete element

HTML is not code and that confusion might be a big part of their problems.

Technically it's a Language. Markup is used in the Fluxbox menu, Artificial Intelligence Markup Language (AIML) runs Alice the Bot, etc.

Looking at the code used to be the second thing I did when I landed on a site, run it though the validator the third. Unless I could tell by looking it wasn't going to pass anyway.

Mine absolutely has to be valid.

I remember seeing tweets about another company doing that about half a year ago. Apple, I think.
