It seems today, that we are very close to total nuclear war. In case humans erase our planet earth, some areas are totally destroyed (...), is there a backup system? Are linux servers, archive.org, linuxquestions, Ubuntu server, ... secured and underground ?
It seems today, that we are very close to total nuclear war.
What do you mean by "total nuclear war?" I would hope that if someone is stupid enough to go nuclear, the rest of the world will not retaliate in kind, and will instead respond with more traditional weaponry, thereby minimizing damage to our earthly ecosystem.
I think it won't come to that. But if it does, I think my priorities will be changed to that of personal survival (crops and learning to live without electricity), and not my Linux box.
Total nuclear war will bring on a nuclear winter that will be followed by a nuclear summer resulting on ozone depletion that kills all higher life forms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_winter
Incidentally, I heard a good radio piece about that yesterday. It had a silver lining.
Consider this:
Ever since the development of nuclear weapons ~75 years ago they have been used only twice, both in 1949.
Even during their worst times, the USSR have not used them - threatened many times, yes, but never actually used. And they had leaders just as bad as Putin, and became increasingly desperate towards the end.
Neither did the Americans.
So whoever told you that "we are very close to total nuclear war" was more than a little hyperbolic.
Apparently one of Putin's friends thinks a nuclear war would be a good idea because then all the Russians would go to heaven (being Orthodox Christians) and the rest of us would "just croak". When such idiots have access to nuclear weapons...
