No internet WinXP - only USB-ethernet works (not NIC)

Hi!

I am having a problem with WinXP (yeah, yeah)...

I can only connect to the internet with the USB-ethernet adapter. I have a PCI network card I bought (it is compatible, etc).

I put it, put in the Cat5 patch cable with internet. The little green light goes on. But still not internet. I don't understand!

I have auto-DNS/IP enabled and everything. Odd thing is, it works fine with the USB adapter.

Any ideas?

Try disabling the usb device. If you have two adaptors, the thing might be confuced what to use to connect to internet. Happend to me when I had 2 nics installed.

well it's plug n play usb adapter.. when I reboot without it plugged in.. it's gone.

I have 2 ethernet ports... one on my mother board and one PCI card... then not to mention those, I have a USB adapter one. I tried pulling the PCI card out (and usb adapter) and just trying the one on MB.. didn't give me internet

right now I have mb one, NIC one, and usb adapter.. and have only the adapter with cat5 in it.. it works fine.. that's how I'm posting now.. but it uses my usb port which I want to free up. that's why I have a NIC.

argh?

Disconnect the usb one while computer is off. Then plug in the cable to onbord card. Turn on the mechine. Go to start -> run. Type "cmd" and enter. It takes you to DOS. Then

type "ipconfig /release"
enter
type "ipconfig /renew"

Try this...
