Where do you suppose Newegg came up with its unusual name? I looked Newegg up in Wikipedia, but the article didn't say.
There used to be a computer software store called Egghead (local or chain, I don't know) in my area, but that name made slightly more sense. (Its ads used the silly slogan "Egg-straordinary values on egg-ceptional software.")
Egghead was a mail order store, then an online store, then had outlets in various malls around the country, then went bankrupt. Newegg is the successor to Egghead that emerged from bankruptcy.
Despite frequent consumer confusion, Newegg has no connection with the former Egghead.com (a brand now owned by Amazon.com). According to Newegg customer service representatives, the name "Newegg" stems from a Taiwanese philosophy meaning "new beginnings."
Also, though Amazon purchased the rights to the egghead.com name, I don't think there is any other connection between the bankrupt egghead.com (that sold out mostly to Fry's) and Amazon.
