What exactly does that status mean?
 

I noticed that I'm tagged a newbie -- does that mean newbie as in new to the site, or newbie as in new to Linux? I'm assuming the former, since I could not find any way to change it in my user profile.

Ok, I'm a member now. Is it based on the time spent here, the number of posts, what? I couldn't find any reference to it in the FAQ either.

Moderator?

It is based on the number of posts you have. As you can see after 30 you are a member. I updated the FAQ.

Moderators are special people selected to become a mod. It should be in the FAQ as well.

1-29 posts = Newbie
30-999 = Member
1000+ = Guru/Addict

Moderator is specially reserved for...erm, um...moderators.

Members get chosen to become a moderator by jeremy and/or current moderators (I Think).

nope.. just jeremy. mods can't select others to become mods.

well.. I would like to think that there is a certain democracy to the thing as a whole.... It's up to him at the end of the day but Jeremy isn't a dictator!

yeah, we do have some sort of say who we might want to help mod. but he is the one who has to hit the switch. :D

While I do have the final say, I like to think that I take all opinions into account. I have a vary open door (or maybe open email) policy. Have you already forgotten the :smash: thread? ;)
