New Linux Magazine Author
If you get a chance to pick up the latest Linux Magazine you may notice that one of the columns was written by ... me Starting with the December issue I will be the author of the monthly "Tech Support" column. You can see a table of contents for the current issue here: http://www.linux-mag.com/2003-12/toc.html
If you get a chance to pick up a copy let me know what you think. I'd also be interested in suggestions for what you would like to see in the column. Thanks.
During the January 2003 Linux World Expo, I had asked these guys to allow me to drop off a WindowsRefund.net information/signup sheet at their booth and was told:
"We have decided not to take a stance on this issue so we can't allow you to do that"
Among the many booths that showed their support and actually hosted this sheet were Linux Journal, Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, NYLXS, LinuxFund, and the FSF.
Linux Magazine showed me their true colors on that day and as a result, I've long since canceled my subscription. Are they still running Microsoft ads?

I really don't understand why so many people are against this. They have so many complaints per month but yet, who really cares. If M$ wants to waste money on ads that helps support Linux and OpenSource, so be it, let them and just simply skip over the ad.
At times there are M$ that get rotated on LQ.org, I hope that doesn't cause any members to cancel their membership with our site just because of a simple ad that is easily ignored.
The ads don't bother me. They are making money for that magazine and helping Linux Magazine raise money.
I just don't get real worried about stuff It isn't worth it.
MS ads in Linux magazines mean nothing more than they're hoping to get people from the Linux world to look at/use their stuff. That says that they kinda fear it a little bit at least. If they didn't view Linux as a threat they wouldn't put ads in the mags

I agree with Whitehat on this one. I would like to see more of Microsofts money spent on ads (which will never work) in places like LQ and the like. I only furthers the open source cause having the competition give us free money. I think people maybe a little insecure with their decision to switch when they are threatened by a simple ad from a company they don't agree with. If Microsoft wants to help fund my favorite Linux site (or mag) that's fantastic. It's like Ford helping me buy a Chevy truck.
At first.. I didn't like microsoft ads on Linux sites, Why? Because I though that by advertising microsoft on a Linux website, Linux wouldn't look so good, this will show people that they should choose microsoft over Linux, since even on Linux sites they are pointing them to get microsoft products, why should they even try Linux I though. But after a while a I realize that who ever is going to use Linux will use it no matter what and no matter what kind of ads they are running on their web sites, plus like some of the guys pointed out here, if microsoft wants to pay for advertising so be it, is money Linux is getting to grow and be even better, so I now thank microsoft for supporting Linux, and I know this is not what they think when they advertise on Linux sites, their view is the bad side one (they want to get Linux users to use their products), but they are still helping… So keep up the good work MS.
