I became aware of the Australian Shepard breed when I met my wife 50 years ago.
We’ve had at least one every day since. Currently there are two in the house, and a rescue German Shepard Cattle Dog mix...and the cat.
I’m concerned about the recent (last few years) recognition of the breed by the AKC. So far, so good...

Would anything change for you or your dog if it wasn't recognized as a "breed" anymore?

It’s always been recognized as a “breed”, just not by the AKC until fairly recently. So no.
My comment is based on the posts herein about the effect of AKC “rules” on the German Shepherd and chihuahua.
