Need Bluetooth Beacon for Marketing and Advertising?

I currently want to use proximity Iotton beacons for marketing and advertising. How far does this reach? Once configured, will I be able to broadcast custom message?

Suit yourself, but I never enable Bluetooth on anything that I take into a retail store, and if my phone started beeping ads at me, I'd walk right out of that store.
