my own small way

Ok, so in my bid to get the young involved in FOSS in my local community, I intend setting up a small community ICT center starting out with 5 desktop computers running Ubuntu exclusively. I hope to create awareness about FOSS among the young here since the future of FOSS will be in jeopardy when all the new generation knows is MS Windows. Any help would be much appreciated.

This sort of thing is often a useful start.
It helps to associate with a local nightschool or community college, then you won't be percieved as "just a crackpot". You may even get paid :)

That's great what you're doing. Just do it.

If you bump into problem, then post it here. ;)

That's really awesome that you're doing that. The more we can expose kids to alternative technology the better. Keep up the good work!

How about:

... basic ubuntu crash course - the idea is that students work their way through trying out the concepts and doing the exercizes.

I've been doing this in 8-10 hour nightschool courses.
It is creative commons, and will need to be modified for your needs.

Great idea! I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if I can help in some small way.

Are you familiar with Ken Starks' work? The Helios Initiative. I mention it because I know he'll be stoked to offer advice and may have some useful tips about talking to educational establishments etc.
