Music Recommendations

I have been coding a lot today and want to reward myself. I have been looking for some new music similar to certain artists I listen to, but need some help. Does anyone have any recommendations based on these?

Code:

All of Left Spine Down's music

Controlling Crowds (both albums) by Archive

All of KMFDM's music (no skinny puppy, I already got them)

Disconnect by The Browing

I Know You Hate Me by Asphyxia

Fall Like Rome by Grendel

God Sent Us To Destroy by Combichrist

All of Northlane's music from their first EP up to Vultures (Nothing past Vultures, I hate their new popy sound)

SHINJUKU MAD (I am aware of Blank Banshee)

Air Japan (especially TOKYO AUDIO 3000)

All of 2814

I am really wanting to find more music with a focus on dystopian and technological themes. Thanks in advance!

The real world is far too dystopian for me. For music, I turn to swing. I like my Daddy's music.

No John Coltrane?!

frankbell 05-23-2019 10:26 PM

Or Cannonball Adderley? One of my favorite jazz artists.

Probably not dystopian enough for those seeking dystopia.:)

Joking aside, when I was going through one of the worst times in my life, I would drift off to sleep with the swing music from KCEA. 15 years later, I'm still a listener.

those titles you mentioned don't tell me anything,a nd I do not like to label my music in this way, either.
but i do often losten to stuff that could be considered "not uplifting" by any definition.
you might want to try some somafm stations, like

deepspaceone
digitalis
spacestationsoma
cliqhop

and esp. dronezone

maybe even bagel radio (very guitarry, but oftentimes dystopian)

and these:

It almost looks like you've been listening to my playlist.

I'd give a listen to other Grendel albums. I really like Timewave Zero and Harsh Generation.

I don't have any good leads other than that. You could try to find similar artists on something like last.fm, like so: https://www.last.fm/music/Grendel/+similar. A bunch of those names aren't familiar to me; looks like I've got some listening to do. Hit up wikipedia, if you haven't already. I'm into the same sort of stuff, I just haven't had enough time to go find more of it.

Might not be related to the bands listed in OP's post, but, when I need to buckle down and code for a while, I do like Jon Hopkin's Immunity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eObo6i5X_Ds

I like some of the somafm stations, especially, the GrooveSalad one. The lounge and chillout channels on di.fm were also good when you could play them directly on your music player without paying or having to open their website.

A podcaster that I listen to has recently been soliciting submissions of "indie music" from his listeners and doing occasional "Indie Music Countdowns" at a rate of about one a month. He's found some interesting indie musicians.

Warning: His regular podcast focuses on politics. You have been warned.

(It's also quite humorous. Humorous and political are a rare combination these days.)
