Multiple Personality Disorder

Are there any different names for this besides Dissociative identity disorder?

I swear there was another name for it? Like one word... for some reason I keep thinking of doppleganger, but I know it isn't that either.

We are in a Psychology unit at school, and there was some talk of this in our book. I've heard of this before, and I know there is a name for it.

Multiple Personality Disorder and schizophrenia are different things. MPD is the manifestation of several personalities - with different ages, gender, behaviour - in one person. Schizophrenia is a different perception of "reality" from the accepted norm.

MPD seems similar to DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissoci...ntity_disorder

This also might be helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnos...ntal_Disorders

I don't know if your psych unit has been introduced to the Novel titled 'Sybil' or the movie version, but I remember seeing that film in class. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sybil_%281976_film%29 And the ongoing stages of Sybil's mental deterioration, caused by a traumatic childhood.
