MP3 --> WAV decoder?
I'm looking for an easy to use mp3 decoder to write my mp3s to CD.
I've used mpg123 - does that create wav files which will go on to a cd? They seem pretty small to me, whereas they should be bigger than the mp3s? Which ones do people use here? |

If you don't want to hand handle creating the CDs, the best GUI front-end cd-writer software I've used is XCDroast. There are many more, that just make a gui frontend for cdrecord and cdrdao.
The only utility I've ever used for decompression of .mp3 to .wav is the command line utility amp, which comes standard with Slack so my guess is that its probably on the Mandy CDs, but probably not installed by default. Also, you know that unless the bitrate on the mp3 is rather high, no matter what you use for decompression is going to come out sounding rather scratchy, right? Oh, mpg123 I use a lot too, for playing, it doesn't change the file format to .wav though. Luck, Finegan |
Thanks guys - I'm particularly interested in the HOWTO script -I have directories of mp3 that I wish to write and that seems a quick way to do it.
I'll give it a go. |
Does that script turn the mp3s in to WAV files, which are compatible with ordinary sound systems?

you don't seem to understand what a wav file is. you normally convert mp3's to wav as they are really easy to convert to cdda tracks. your shop bought audio cd's do NOT contain WAV files.
persoanlly i'd recommend just using eroaster or something which will convert thenm for you. |
Nobody said something about XMMS's facility "mp3 to wav"... for cd - burning do what acid said

Acid, have you been watchin the Princess Bride lately? You continue to tell people "I don't think you know what that word means". In the Princess Bride the short fat bald guy says idubidebly (or however you spell it) alot, and the spanish dude says, "you keep saying that word, I don't think you know what it means"

well i do have an immunity to iocane powder...

Life is pain Kewpie, anyone who says differently is selling something.
Offhand, what's the best utility you jokers know of to strip a CD down to MP3s? I'd use ogg, but I have mp3 stalwarts in my house and I need them to pay the bills and occasionally order the pizza. Oh, and something command line too? Cheers, Finegan |
