MP3 Player for podcasts

Hi Folks, I'm looking for an mp3 player that will automatically remember where I stopped on any/all files I listen to. VLC will recall where you left a video file when if you stop midway and play another file. This what I would like to see in an mp3 player.

Currently using a Sony NW-E394, if this could save stop points it would be ideal.

Cheers

If I remember right, the el cheapo Sandisk players do that (at least sort of) - I think I picked one up for about $15 a year or two ago, primarily for the FM functionality and expandable storage (they take some variant of flash memory card). I'm not sure about 'save midway and start another file' though - but again from what I recall if you stop it playing in file.mp3 it will be right where you left it, but if you pick another file (file2.mp3) it will remember that one's position.

I did have a Sansa Clip (Sandisk) and no it only remembers the file actually playing when you turn it off. It does not remember every track you leave midway through playing. Even remebering the current ack could be a bit of a gamble, especially if you added new tracks/files. My Sony NW-E394 remembers the current track position. As soon as you go to another file that position is lost.

Thanks for your reply.

Just to be clear I'm looking for a player that saves my position on all tracks I've listened to automatically.

I can't think of a player that does exactly that, and you're right on the Sandisk - it won't recall every file, and when you add or remove storage it goes through some 'detection' routine that can clear stuff out.

I'm wondering if perhaps a different kind of mobile device might be easier to get working here - like a tablet with some application (does VLC work on tablets?), or maybe one of those super tiny notebooks (which we could absolutely get VLC on). I also vaguely remember a few years ago that was some custom firmware/OS for a lot of mp3 players (I believe Sandisk among them), 'rockbox' sounds right, maybe that offers customization that would help?

Sorry I can't be of any more help.
