Hiya. Found out how to fix this

type "about:config" into your address bar. It'll bring up all sorts of stuffs. Scroll down to "middlemouse.contentLoadURL" and change it to false

OK, good. But instead of disabling an incredibly useful feature, why not try to stop pressing the button by accident? Lay off the coffee!

'Useful' is in the eye of the beholder. ;) And other than that, the middle mouse button can be used for far more useful features like autoscroll.

You're right, eye of the beholder, as I hardly think autoscroll is useful at all. Besides, you can do it with [shift] + [uparrow] or [downarrow] anyway...at least with konq.

Type about:config in the address bar and look for middlemouse.contentLoadURL make sure its value is set to false. Otherwise your pasting from your clipboard and if its not url Firefox is using the Google I Feel Lucky search and taking you to whatever url it guesses.

Possible values and their effects
True

Load the contents of the clipboard as a URL. (Default for Linux/Unix.)
False

Handle middle-clicks normally. (Default for all but Linux/Unix.)

For some stupid reason this is set to "true: in Linux but "false" in windows go figure. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Middlemouse.contentLoadURL

Also make sure middlemouse.paste is set to "true" , which it should already be. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Middlemouse.paste

Did you guys try this?

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Use autoscrolling

Hmm...

Thanks for the "fix."

I find disabling it useful because I have middle-click enabled on my laptop's touchpad as the extreme top-right corner. Sometimes when scrolling (dragging down the right side) I start too high on the touchpad because I'm not looking at it (why should I?) and my reading is interrupted quite rudely.

I actually enjoy these little thread revivals... This thread is a perfect example of a fix for what I considered to always be a minor annoyance and simply dealt with. I never really thought to hunt down the setting and fix it but seeing a thread - no matter how old - puts me in proactive mode. With that being said, the original revival post simply reiterated the solution that was offered twice before... and therefore totally unnecessary. While it's cool that the thread got bumped so many moons later the reason for doing so is ridiculous. Sometimes we must bow to the absurd... :D

EDIT: Spell-checked... egregious spelling errors. :)

I find it useful because I can close multiple tabs quickly. May sound stupid, but very very useful when I'm looking for things. I open a dozen or so tabs at a time, check them, kill them that way. If I want to copy a URL I just simply middle click my home button to open up a new window and middle click the URL in the address bar. Same thing as opening a new tab and middle clicking the tab to copy the URL, just different order :D I figured he did the same

Anyone happen to know how to get it to highlight the text in the address bar when I click on it?
