Microsoft to stop Linux, older Windows, from running on Windows 8 PCs !!!
I will never support any company out there that has monoply and plays dirty like this no matter if 1,000,000,000 times better . This is just wrong and no court lawsuit on this trust laws is major joke of the US political system of goverment and court run by neoconservative. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/open-sourc...ows-8-pcs/9589 What I don't get is why Microsoft cares !! If I buy computer and it has windows 8 on it and I hate windows 8 and put older windows on it or Linux what does Microsoft care they made their money !! Just like I can buy a computer with windows 8 and put the computer in the garage and never turn it on. They still made money of me.It sort of like if I gone to store buy mac computer from apple and put Linux has main OS on it or just never turn the computer on they still made money. Or is this some kind of kick backs over the search engines giving cut of their profit to Microsoft over OS using the search engines . |
you might want to do a bit of research
it is a way " over the top" way to "try" to stop rootkits and boot viruses from running on windows the " basic idea" is not that bad just the implementation , that sucks big time ( and is likely to CAUSE many many many law suits - think anti-trust on ARM cpu';'s) Quote:

Not another thread about Secure Boot, we have already answered most questions about this here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ge-4175417476/

And would you please be so kind to explain why there should be anti-trust law suits against Microsoft in a market where they a) have no monopoly and b) it is common practice by almost any vendor to lock down the devices? |
The only ARM machines that are locked to Windows 8 are those that bear the Windows certification logos and ship with Windows pre-installed. If you intend on running something else on ARM hardware, just don't buy a unit with Win 8 pre-isntalled and there won't be any issue.
It5 would be interesting to see if the Microsoft keys used by Ubuntu et al would permit use of such hardware. |
I am interested whether this:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...cs-4175432030/ will mean that other OSs can boot on Windows ARM devices also. |

I don't use windows anymore but when I did in the past I rarely got viruses and malware because I was careful and proactive and I didn't have an IE explorer with tons of third party toolbars where many of them are malware. |
In the quest for a "flaming headline," the poster apparently forgot that (a) the feature can be turned-off, and (b) operating systems other than Microsoft's can be compatible with it.
Even though you might equate this particular type of machine with one operating system, believe it or not, there is a world "beyond Microsoft." Dozens of operating systems run on this type of cheaply-available hardware ... and, they always will. |
